Since rebranding as Maidens & Ravens and becoming a more unique bridal boutique, I have gained lots of new followers, many of whom embrace alternative style. Alongside this I have also noticed that an increasing number of my brides are neurodivergent. I must admit this was somewhat unexpected, but I love it as I find that brides who are different (in whatever way!) are definitely my people, and I feel that even if they have not told me that they are neurodivergent, I instinctively seem to cater for their needs without making it a big deal.
I am aware that for many of you who are neurodivergent, especially those who are autistic or experience sensory sensitivities, finding the right bridal boutique can definitely be a challenge. Many traditional bridal shops can feel pretentious, loud, overwhelming, and overstimulating, which is why it was always my priority at Maidens & Ravens to create a cosy, relaxed and welcoming environment that caters to these specific needs.
I know that sensory overload can be a real concern for many of you. Bright lights and decor, busy spaces with other people, and loud noises can make the experience of wedding dress shopping feel overwhelming rather than an experience to enjoy. To address this, when you book in to Maidens & Ravens you will always have the boutique to yourself. The space itself is calm and relaxed with gentle lighting, soft music, and my undivided attention where together we can focus on what matters: finding your perfect dress.
Once you have booked, I give guidance on what to wear and how long the appointment will last and you are free to ask me any questions beforehand, so you know what to expect in the appointment, so there are no surprises.
I also encourage you to bring one or two supportive people if you feel that would help you feel more comfortable, and during your appointment the boutique is not open to anyone else for browsing. Throughout the appointment you will have plenty of privacy and I always make sure to communicate clearly and respectfully at all times. If there are fabrics (often velvet or scratchy sequins) that cause you sensory issues, then we will avoid them!
After your appointment we can stay in touch via WhatsApp which I know many of you feel is easier than speaking on the phone. I am always happy for you to message me to ask any questions even if it is just a second opinion on what shoes would work best with your dress.
I know that every bride has different needs, and even after 6 years in the bridal business, I know that I am still learning. I am always open to adapting my approach to ensure that you feel in control and at ease throughout the experience. So, if you have been putting off making an appointment to try on dresses, I hope that this will help you feel reassured that our space at Maidens & Ravens is a safe one and somewhere you will always be welcomed for who you are.
